Major Gogoi deserves distinguished services medal for using human shield against stone-pelters in Kashmir.
Unfortunately, there were not many willing to pat his back for his remarkable presence of mind and timely action that probably saved the lives of many of his men, for whom he was responsible as their officer in charge.
Tough situations warrant tough reactions, and dangerous situations often, if not always, merit daring actions. When Major Nitin Gogoi decided (and, mind you, it could not have been anything other than a split-second decision) to use a civilian as a “human shield” to protect his men from a stone-pelting mob, he was simply reacting to a tough situation in dangerous environment.
This was the patriotic view of Chief minister of Punjab.

We are proud Indians to have armed forces with brain and emotions. We are safe. There are people who defend the human rights of Afjal Guru...who raises their voice for terrorists like Afjal kasav and Israt Jahan.We need to be free from these cowards who doubts such beautiful decision of our security forces... enemies of our armed forces...enemies of our nation. We are unsafe with these anti nationals.
