Subhashitani
येषां न विद्या न तपो न दानं
ज्ञानं न शीलं न गुणो न धर्मः ।
ते मर्त्यलोके भुविभारभूता
मनुष्यरूपेण मृगाश्चरन्ति ॥
This is another top quoted Sanskrit verse from Shubhashitani..The well said texts, by great sages of ancient India. Here, we have been enumerated seven virtues of humanity that differentiate the humans from other grazing animals.
We learn how humans are liabilities on the intelligent earth. The virtues are discussed below with relative values in human behaviour.
1. विद्या...Education is the most necessary factor that separates man from other grazing animals. It is the training of spiritual as well as technical know-how which polishes human living style. The grazing animals on the other hand, need the physical expertise of running to escape from danger. Food and sex are the only things they need in their lives for success. Physical strength is the only instrument with them.
2. तपः Penance or hard work is another specific quality that makes humans unique. Through, constant exercise and hard work, humans gets the maximum result with minimum output. Effort and practice makes them more successful than other animals who take the life easy going.
3. दानं ..Charity is the next virtue which puts human on higher stage. It is the indication of strong emotional values and the softer side of mental strength and conscience.
4. ज्ञानं .. Knowledge is the superior thought process in humanity which can be acquired through experience guided by education, training and wisdom. Humans try to gain more and more, which is not seen in grazing animals.
5. शीलं..Virtues like Pity, pardon, kindness, truthfulness and behavioural purity are exclusively found in human beings.
6. गुणं ..Qualities like courage, braveness and simplicity are not seen except humans and they take these factors as the way of tensionless life style.
7. धर्म ..Code of conduct is the most differentiating platform on which humans only tread. This is the way of making the world a disciplined and cultured place to live in peace with cordial relationship with all the stakeholders.
It is not that all humans are laced with these above mentioned virtues. The message here given is, the humans who don't practise the above virtues are equal to grazing animals. They live as liabilities to human race.
Let us find out if we fit to be humans on the platform of this verse or not.
